## Curtains and blinds in Kensington
Kensington windows are among the most demanding we work with, and the reason is proportion. Tall sashes on the principal floors carry drops that suburban houses never see, and at that scale small errors show: a hem an inch out reads immediately, a heading that is not level under a cornice looks wrong from the far side of the room, and an under-specified pole will visibly deflect.

We work in Kensington from our Marsh Road base in Pinner, covering the stucco-fronted townhouses, the red-brick mansion flats and the garden-square terraces. Because the same survey carries through to making, the long-drop tolerances agreed at the visit are the tolerances the finished curtains are cut to.

### Kensington is part of our central London coverage
We cover Kensington alongside Chelsea, Belgravia, Hampstead and Primrose Hill. Visits are arranged with parking, access and building management taken into account, and the making is managed by us against the survey.

### Visits and scheduling
Appointments are arranged directly with you and, where a managed building requires it, with the porter or estate office. Dates are confirmed at booking.

### Property types we work with here
Stucco-fronted and brick townhouses with tall sashes on the first floor, Victorian and Edwardian mansion flats with cornices and limited height above the window, garden-square terraces, lower-ground-floor rooms with restricted light, and refurbished apartments within period shells.

### What Kensington homes usually ask for
Interlined full-length curtains with hand-finished headings, Roman blinds behind curtains as a working light layer, voiles for street-facing privacy, ceiling-fixed tracks where a cornice leaves no wall space, motorised blinds for tall or high-level glazing, and reupholstery of occasional furniture to match.

## Services available in Kensington

### Premium Bespoke Curtains
Interlined curtains for tall Kensington sashes, where interlining decides both how the fabric falls and how much cold from old glass reaches the room.

### Roman Blinds
A tailored light layer behind curtains, or a neat standalone treatment in bathrooms, kitchens and studies, with fold depth set deeper to suit a tall window.

### Automated Blinds
Rechargeable motorised blinds where cabling would mean disturbing decorated period rooms, grouped so a whole elevation moves together.

### Bespoke Curtain Poles, Supply & Fitting
Poles, or ceiling-fixed tracks where cornices and shutter boxes remove the wall space a bracket would need, specified for the load of a long interlined curtain.

### Reupholstery
Wing chairs, buttoned headboards, ottomans and bedroom chairs re-covered with hand-finished detail and period-appropriate trim.

### Window Dressing Design
A scheme that works with the architecture - cornices, panelling, working shutters and sash proportions - instead of ignoring it.

### Soft Furnishings Consultations
Palettes built on texture rather than pattern, since Kensington rooms usually have plenty of architectural detail already.

### Contract Curtains & Voiles
High-specification repeat work for prime lettings and refurbishments, scheduled around building access and lift restrictions.

### In-Home Fabric Selection
Samples seen in the room, because tall sashes throw light deep into a space and show every detail of a weave and a heading.

## Why choose us in Kensington

### Long drops treated as precision work
At three metres and above, tolerance matters more than choice of fabric. Drops are measured at multiple points, floor level is checked across the width, and the finished drop is recorded in the written specification before making.

### Period detail respected
Cornices, panelling, architraves and working shutters change what can be fixed and where. We identify those constraints at the visit and specify a pole, ceiling track or pelmet board that suits the room rather than compromising it.

### Claims limited to supplied facts
Curtain & Blind Design is the trading name of Adey Interiors Ltd, company number 11091485.

## Window problems specific to Kensington properties

### Tall sashes, cold glass and long-drop tolerances
The signature Kensington window is a tall sash, often original and often single-glazed on upper floors. Two problems follow: cold air falls down the glass all winter and spills across the floor, and the sheer drop magnifies every making error.

Interlining answers the first. It adds mass and thermal resistance, improves the way the fabric falls, and, combined with full-length drops and proper returns at each end, closes the gap at the sides where the draught actually escapes into the room.

The second is answered by measurement discipline. Floors in period rooms are rarely level across a wide window, so the drop is measured at several points and set out accordingly, otherwise one curtain breaks on the floor while the other hangs short. That check takes minutes at the visit and cannot be corrected afterwards.

### Cornices, shutter boxes and nowhere to fix
Mansion flats and townhouse principal rooms frequently leave very little usable wall between the top of the window and a cornice. A wall bracket forced into that gap either sits too low, cutting into the glass, or damages the plasterwork.

The correct response is usually a ceiling-fixed track, sometimes with a fabric-covered pelmet or a fascia to conceal it. That gains height, keeps the heading level and avoids touching the cornice at all. Where shutter boxes take up the reveal, blinds are moved outside the recess and above the opening instead of being squeezed in.

Substrate is the other unknown. Lath and plaster, and old lime plaster over brick, do not hold a standard fixing under the weight of an interlined curtain. We establish what is behind the finish before specifying, which is why the hardware decision is made on site rather than from a plan.

### Street-facing privacy, listed constraints and managed buildings
Many Kensington rooms face directly onto a street or a communal garden, so daytime privacy has to be solved without losing the light that makes the room work. Voiles or an unlined Roman blind behind full curtains handle that: privacy by day, full cover and warmth at night.

Listed buildings and conservation areas restrict what can be altered, and managed buildings and estates often set rules about what is visible from outside: commonly the colour of the lining seen from the street. Where that applies we specify the lining accordingly, and we ask about it before ordering rather than after installation.

Access is a practical constraint in its own right. Lift dimensions, stair widths, porter access and parking or loading restrictions all affect how long curtains can be delivered and installed, so those details are confirmed when the fitting is booked.

## How the work runs

- Step 1

### Enquiry and appointment
Tell us the rooms and windows involved. We arrange a visit in Kensington, coordinating with building management or a porter where required.

- Step 2

### Measure and fabric visit
Drops are measured at several points, floor level and reveal depth are checked, the fixing substrate is identified, and fabrics are viewed in the room's own light.

- Step 3

### Written specification and price
Fabric and reference, heading, fullness, interlining, hardware, fitting position and finished drop are confirmed per window, priced individually.

- Step 4

### Making to the agreed specification
Curtains and blinds are cut and hand-finished to the agreed specification, with long drops set out to the measurements recorded on site.

- Step 5

### Fitting and dressing
Hardware is fitted, curtains are hung, and pleats are dressed and tied so the folds set. We leave fabric-specific care instructions with you.

## Kensington questions we are asked
Do you serve Kensington?Yes. Kensington is part of our central London coverage, alongside Chelsea, Belgravia, Hampstead and Primrose Hill, worked from our Pinner base.

How quickly can you get to a Kensington address? We travel in for measure and fitting appointments by arrangement, taking access and parking restrictions into account. Specific response and lead times have not been supplied for publication and are confirmed at booking.

What do bespoke curtains cost in Kensington?Long drops, interlining and hand finishing all affect the figure, as does the fabric. Price ranges have not been supplied for publication, so every window is measured and quoted in writing first.

Do you offer urgent or emergency availability in Kensington?Made-to-measure curtains and blinds cannot be produced same-day. Remedial visits - a bracket, a glide, a track adjustment, re-dressing after decorating - can usually be arranged sooner.

Can you fit curtains where a cornice leaves no wall space?Yes. A ceiling-fixed track, sometimes with a fascia or a fabric-covered pelmet, keeps the heading level and gains height without touching the cornice.

Will you work around existing working shutters?Yes. Where shutters remain in use they provide blackout and security, so the curtains or blinds can be specified for appearance and warmth instead of duplicating that function.

Can you dress windows in a listed building or conservation area?We work within whatever restrictions apply, including estate or freeholder rules on lining colour visible from the street. We ask about those constraints before ordering rather than afterwards.

Will curtains help with cold from single-glazed sashes?Interlined full-length curtains with proper returns make a noticeable difference, because they stop the cold air falling down the glass from spilling into the room.

Can motorised blinds be fitted without chasing cables into decorated rooms?Yes. Rechargeable motors need no cabling, which is why they are commonly specified in finished Kensington rooms. A wired supply is used where cabling is already accessible.

Which nearby areas do you also cover?Chelsea, Belgravia, Hampstead and Primrose Hill in London, plus Pinner, Northwood, Rickmansworth and Chalfont.
