## Curtains and blinds in Chelsea
Chelsea rooms are usually already strongly characterised: sash windows in regular rhythm, working shutters folded back into the reveals, panelling or joinery on the walls, and terraces where the same window repeats across three or four floors with a different function on each. The design job is therefore less about decoration and more about coherence: what each floor needs, and how it relates to the next.

We cover Chelsea from our Marsh Road base in Pinner, working on the terraces off the King's Road, garden-square houses, riverside apartments and refurbished flats within period shells. Because we manage the survey, the making and the installation together, the scheme you sign off is the scheme that gets installed, floor by floor.

### Chelsea is part of our central London coverage
Chelsea is covered alongside Kensington, Belgravia, Hampstead and Primrose Hill. Visits are arranged around parking and loading restrictions, and any building access rules that apply.

### Visits and scheduling
Measure, fabric and fitting appointments are agreed directly with you. Dates are confirmed when the appointment is booked.

### Property types we work with here
Georgian and Victorian terraces off the King's Road with tall first-floor sashes, garden-square houses, mews properties with small windows and awkward reveals, riverside apartments with wide modern glazing, and lower-ground rooms with limited natural light.

### What Chelsea homes usually ask for
Full-length interlined curtains for drawing rooms, Roman blinds behind curtains for daytime light control, voiles for street-level privacy, ceiling-fixed tracks where cornices restrict fixing height, blackout in bedrooms and children's rooms, and reupholstery of occasional furniture within the same palette.

## Services available in Chelsea

### Window Dressing Design
A window-by-window scheme across a whole Chelsea house, so a drawing-room treatment and a top-floor bedroom belong to the same design decision.

### Bespoke Curtain Poles, Supply & Fitting
Poles where the wall allows and ceiling-fixed tracks where cornices or shutter boxes do not, always specified for the finished curtain weight.

### Automated Blinds
Rechargeable motorised blinds for high-level and hard-to-reach glazing, avoiding cable routes through recently decorated rooms.

### Reupholstery
Wing chairs, ottomans, headboards and bedroom chairs re-covered with hand-finished detail to sit inside the room's palette.

### Soft Furnishings Consultations
Texture-led palettes for rooms that already carry architectural detail, recorded so later purchases still match.

### Contract Curtains & Voiles
Repeatable high-specification window types for prime lettings and small hospitality interiors, with a schedule kept for replacements.

### In-Home Fabric Selection
Fabrics judged in the actual room, since a Chelsea drawing room and its lower-ground counterpart show the same colour very differently.

## Why choose us in Chelsea

### Shutters and sashes treated as part of the design
Where shutters still work, they do the blackout and security job, which frees the curtain to be softer and more decorative. That decision is made at the visit and recorded, so the specification reflects how the window is actually used.

### One scheme across several floors
A terraced house has repeating windows with different demands per floor. We document fabric, heading, hardware and drop per window so the house can be dressed in phases without the later rooms drifting away from the first.

### Only what we can evidence
Adey Interiors Ltd, company number 11091485, trades as Curtain & Blind Design.

## Window problems specific to Chelsea properties

### Shutters and curtains competing for the same space
Original working shutters fold back into the reveal, and a curtain fitted without allowing for that will stop them opening, or the shutters will crease the leading edge of the fabric every time they are used. It is one of the most common faults we are asked to correct in Chelsea houses.

The remedy is a fitting position and return depth calculated with the shutters in mind: the pole or track projected far enough forward, and the stack placed clear of the folded shutter leaves. Where space genuinely will not allow both, the honest recommendation is either dress curtains that are never drawn or a blind above the opening instead.

The upside of keeping shutters in service is significant. They already deliver blackout, security and thermal benefit, so the fabric can be chosen for how the room looks rather than being loaded with functions it does not need to perform.

### Terraced floors, repeated windows, different demands
In a Chelsea terrace the same window type repeats up the house, but the requirement changes on every floor. A first-floor drawing room wants full-length interlined curtains that read formally; a second-floor bedroom wants blackout that actually blocks a summer morning; a top-floor study wants glare control while working.

Treating them identically produces a house that either looks inconsistent in function or performs badly in half its rooms. We set a common fabric family and hardware finish for coherence, then vary the treatment, lining and heading per floor, recorded window by window.

Lower-ground rooms are the exception that proves the rule. With limited light and often a light-well outlook, heavy treatments make them cave-like. Slimmer hardware, lighter fabrics and blinds mounted high recover both light and apparent ceiling height.

### Street-level privacy, river light and city grime
Ground and lower-ground windows sit close to pavement level, so privacy is a daily requirement rather than a night-time one. Voiles, or an unlined blind behind curtains, hold privacy through the day while keeping the daylight the room depends on.

Riverside and south-facing rooms have the opposite problem: strong, reflected light that fades fabric faster than the room's owners expect, concentrated on one edge. Lining weight and light-fastness are specified for that exposure, and delicate fabrics are steered to darker windows.

Central London air also leaves its mark. Windows opened onto a busy street soil the leading edge of pale fabrics faster than in a suburban house, so we advise on cleanability at selection and provide fabric-specific care instructions: specialist dry cleaning for anything lined or interlined, never washing.

## How the work runs

- Step 1

### Enquiry and appointment
Tell us the rooms, floors and windows involved. We arrange a Chelsea visit, allowing for access and parking restrictions.

- Step 2

### Measure and design visit
We measure every opening, check shutter clearance, reveal depth, floor level and fixing substrate, and view fabrics in the room's own light.

- Step 3

### Written scheme and price
You receive a window-by-window schedule: fabric and reference, heading, fullness, lining, hardware, fitting position and finished drop, with a price against each line.

- Step 4

### Making to the agreed specification
Everything is cut and hand-finished to the agreed schedule, so a phased house stays consistent between rooms and visits.

- Step 5

### Fitting and dressing
Hardware is fitted, shutter clearance is verified in use, curtains are hung and pleats dressed and tied so the folds set. Care guidance is left with you.

## Chelsea questions we are asked
Do you cover Chelsea?Yes. Chelsea is part of our central London coverage, worked from our Pinner base on Marsh Road in Pinner, alongside Kensington, Belgravia, Hampstead and Primrose Hill.

How fast can you reach Chelsea?Appointments are arranged around access, loading and parking restrictions. Specific response and lead times have not been supplied for publication, so dates are confirmed with you at booking.

What does window dressing cost in Chelsea?Long drops, interlining, hand finishing and hardware all influence the price, as does the fabric. Price ranges have not been supplied for publication, so each window is quoted in writing after measuring.

Is there emergency availability in Chelsea?Bespoke curtains and blinds are made to order, so not same-day. Remedial work such as adjusting a track, replacing glides or re-dressing curtains after decorating can usually be scheduled sooner.

Can I keep my working shutters and still have curtains?Usually yes. The fitting position, projection and stack width are calculated so the shutters still fold back cleanly. Where the space genuinely does not allow both, we will tell you before making rather than after.

Can you dress a whole house in stages?Yes. We record a window-by-window schedule so a later phase matches the first, which is how most terraced houses here are done.

What works in a dark lower-ground room?Slimmer hardware, lighter fabrics and blinds fitted high above the opening. Heavy full-length treatments make those rooms feel smaller and darker than they need to.

How do I get daytime privacy at street level without losing light?Voiles or an unlined blind behind curtains: privacy and softened daylight during the day, full cover and warmth at night from the curtains.

How should Chelsea curtains be cleaned?Lined and interlined curtains need specialist dry cleaning rather than washing, since the layers shrink at different rates. We leave fabric-specific care instructions at handover.

Which other areas do you serve nearby?Kensington, Belgravia, Hampstead and Primrose Hill, plus Pinner, Northwood, Rickmansworth and Chalfont.
